STOKE A.R. Richards Potters put another plucky performance in despite losing 48-42 to the Plymouth Devils in the Travel Plus National League at the St. Boniface Arena and did not come away from Devon empty handed as they claimed a second point on the road in a week.

The Potters went behind early on with a 5-1 from Henry Atkins and Nathan Stoneman over Anders Rowe, but Stoke gained a 4-2 in the following race from Paul Burnett and Arran Butcher over Macauley Leek and the Potters followed this up with a further 402 from David Walinger and Arran Butcher over Ryan Tery-Daley to level the scores at 9-9 after three heats.

There were then a series of drawn heats before the devils went back in front in heat seven with a 4-2 from Richard Andrews and Adam Sheppard over Wallinger after Burnett fell while third and the Devon side extended their lead with a further 4-2 advantage from Atkins who managed to hold off Max Clegg with Terry-Daley third to open up a 4-point lead for the home side with the Potters trailing 29-25 after nine races.

Clegg and Wallinger combine for a 4-2 heat win over Stoneman in the next race, Stoneman managing to pass Wallinger to take second place, but Plymouth again pushed on with a 4-2 in heat twelves from Atkins and Leek over Wallinger before the home side gained a 5-1 from Stoneman and Richard Andrews over Rowe and Clegg who was excluded and put back 15 metres for a second starting offence warning and with a drawn heat in the following race the Devils secured victory with one heat remaining.

Stoke then claimed a 4-2 heat advantage in the final heat from Clegg and Wallinger over Atkins and Andrews giving the Potters another point on the road for not losing by more than 6-points.

Potters rider David Wallinger commented “It was a battling performance from us and I’m pleased we got something out of the meeting. We were in there with a chance of winning throughout the match and kept plugging away and just fell short tonight, but we are now full of confidence having got something from hear and Coventry last week and we now look forward to Eastbourne tomorrow night.”
