STOKE look to open their home campaign with the visit of West Midlands rivals Birmingham in the National Trophy at Loomer Road on Saturday night, 7pm.

The A.R. Richards Potters lost their opening trophy meeting of the season losing out to Coventry on a wet Sunday afternoon but they are optimistic of getting a victory over the Brummies’ on Saturday with team manager Adam Isherwood saying “We know it will be difficult against Birmingham who have some very good riders in their line-up, but we know as a team that we are capable of getting a result against them. We have genuine race winners in our side and we are looking to get our home season off to a winning start and get the feel-good factor back at Loomer Road this year. We know what Max (Clegg) is capable of and Rob (Shuttleworth) along with Tony (Atkin) and with the rest of the team getting some track time on Thursday at our press & practice day it has given the lads a chance to blow away the cobwebs and we are now looking forward to the challenge against Birmingham.”

Birmingham have been hampered by the weather as much as the Potters with only a home victory over Coventry in a challenge fixture and they are led into action by Tom Bacon and former Potters number 1 Mitchell Davey who has taken over the captaincy of the Perry Barr based club. Mildenhall rider Jordan Jenkins comes into the Brummies’ side as a guest for Danyon Hume who is on Championship duty with Ipswich with Callum Walker linking up with the West Midlands outfit having signed from Plymouth over the close season. Layne Cupitt returns for a second season with the club with Arran Butcher and talented youngster Leon Flint completing the Brummies’ septet.

Stoke will be unchanged from the side that lost out to the Bees’ at Leicester earlier this month.
