MITCHELL Davey and David Wallinger tied for the Stoke 2017 rider of the year award as voted by supporters of the club at the end of season awards evening at Holditch Workingmen’s club in Chesterton of Saturday night.

Promoter Dave Tattum who opened the envelope with the result of the voting that had taken place was quite shocked on seeing the result saying “telling supporters in all the years that I’ve been running speedway here at Stoke and also having been involved I’ve never seen a tie for rider of the year and it must be quite unique.”

Davey collected a second award for the fastest time of the season while skipper Tony Atkin collected the most consistent rider award.
